Job Purpose

The main requirements of the Staff Nurse are:
• To be responsible for the well-being of residents within the care home, ensuring that their physical, emotional and social needs are met, whilst helping them to achieve their full capabilities.
• To ensure the safe, smooth and efficient running of the care home in accordance with the policies of the company and the registering authority guidelines.
Principle accountabilities and activities
• To act in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct.
• To assess the individual needs of residents and ensure that they receive the highest standards of holistic care and attention.
• To participate fully in the overall care of residents as per the care plan.
• To give guidance and training to other staff and to provide clinical support as required.
• To be involved with residents’ activities both in and out of the care home and encourage leisure pursuits accordingly.
• To assist in maintaining safe levels of care, monitoring standards of care and ensuring safe practice.
• To assist in the maintenance of accurate records in accordance with registration and legal requirements.
• To advise the GP on any concern regarding residents and keep them informed of their condition.
• To help deploy staff efficiently in relation to duties to be covered.
• To be responsible for the safe administration of drugs in accordance with company policy.
• Duty to ‘whistleblow’ if witness bad practice or harm to a resident within the care home (see policy in handbook).
• To supervise closely all duties involved with seriously ill residents.
• To assist in the maintenance of a safe and healthy working environment by ensuring adherence to the Company Health & Safety and Welfare policies and procedures.
• Duty to inform Matron / Home Manager if the NMC commences investigation into practice.
• Carry out appraisals of staff and identify training needs.
Qualifications, training and experience
• ENB 998 and/or ENB 941
• First level registration.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Ability to motivate and delegate effectively.
Environment
All staff should bear in mind the overall objectives of the care home, namely that residents will be encouraged to maintain independence and choice in a homely environment which promotes excellent customer relationships.
